B&N nook version
  • popoffkapopoffka July 2010
    Hello!
As you may know, B&N nook e-reader is using Android 1.5 as it's OS, but, unfortunately, it has no comic & manga readers available at all.
Nook owners would really love to use Droid Comic Viewer on their readers, but it's impossible to launch DCV on nook without any changes, because nook's design is a little bit unusual - it has one 6" e-ink display and one 3.5" LCD touchscreen.
So, could you please develop a special DCV version for B&N nook, or at least share DCV's source code, so we can port it ourselves?
    Thank you very much!

Interesting. We will give this wiki a look and if it's reasonably doable, we will gladly add nook support.

Do you have any experience developing for the B&N nook?

Would you mind helping us with testing the port in a real device?

I don't actually have any experience developing apps for nook, but, by reading some tutorials, I've understood it shouldn't be too hard, because the only thing that actually changes is the screen's resolution.
I'll gladly help you testing your port on a real device as soon as my nook arrives - I haven't received it yet :) But I'm sure it won't be hard to find people who would love to help you test your app.
    Thank you once again!

Hello! I am author of FBReader port for Nook, also i am developing an alternative firmware. So i have a device and experience in developing on android and nook. if someone provide me sources, i may build a simple nook port.

    Thanks!

Hi ex3ndr! We might open-source the code in the near future. In the meantime we will attempt to give a the nook port a go ourselves, with help from the community and users like popoffka. No promises, but it's on our (huge) to-do list now.

But please stay around! It's nice to have developers interested in Droid Comic Viewer.

I've finally got my nook today, so I'm now able and will be glad to test your application.
Thank you once again for your effort to port DCV to nook!

Would very much like to see an app in the Nook Color marketplace, especially now that it is open. :D
  • I've used it a bunch on my NookColor running CM7 booted off the sdcard. I get the low memory failure a lot. But when it works, it looks great.

I'm really hoping we get support for the Nook Color. I'm considering buying one strictly for comic reading, and would like to be able to use the droid comic viewer.

Howdy, Stranger!
