Out of memory error in Pandigital Novel
  • moviecanemoviecane July 2010
I just bought a Pandigital Novel, and hacked it to have a Panda main screen. I was able to install ACV easily, but I am getting an "Unable to load image" error when trying to open CBZ files. I am able to open the same files on my Evo, but it would be nice to be able to read comics on the larger screen, and what better use for a full color ereader, anyway? Is there a way to make this work that I am missing?

Can you send us the logcat? If you don't know what that is, I've planned to post some instructions next week.

I'm sorry, I don't know what the logcat is. I guess I will wait until next week. Thanks!

I found a solution! Apparently the comics have to be on an SD card instead of onboard memory for the program to open it. I just got another SD card to keep in the Novel, and it works like a charm. You really do know how to write a versatile program! Thanks!

Interesting. In case you still want to send us the logcat (system log), you can follow the instructions below to do so:

I'm seeing out of memory errors on all color comics on my DroidX. Black and white (vampirella and walking dead) seem to load fine.

I can typically see the cover, and maybe one additional page, and then I hit the memory error.

There are a bunch of memory error comments in the android store on this as well.

I have all my comics stored on my sd card, so the above poster fix does not help. I'm going to try to move the app to the sd card, and see if that helps.

My plan was to upload my comics to my droidx, and then use the hdmi out program to view my comics on my 50" flatscreen tv, using the droid for control.

    Has this app been abandoned?

Additionally, converting to cbz resolved the memory issues. I cannot find any beta option to turn on for the cbr support mentioned in the manual.

I have a Pandigital Novel as well, and I fixed the memory errors by using an SD card rather than the internal memory. ACV seems to have trouble writing temp files to the internal memory.

@garee Nope. We just took a little time to focus on other projects.

Let's limit the discussion to the Pandigital Novel.

@weeji That's correct. We'll try to solve that on the next update.

Howdy, Stranger!
