Stretch To Fit Screen
  • jazjaz September 2010
Hey. Love the app think it's awesome, however.....

Just got a android tablet. These things are getting quite populer now and I think it is imperative that we have a stretch to fill screen option. There is a fit to width and a fit to height option already. I cannot imagine it is too difficult to have a fit to width AND height option. This would be awesome for tablets, no more out of frame cells or "letter boxed" comics. Please, please, please, please, please make it so!

    Hi Jaz!

    Wouldn't this distort the image?
  • dangerdaddangerdad September 2010
I suspect Jaz means to preserve aspect ratio -- so figure out whether width or height is a better zoom and pick that.

Isn't this covered by the Best fit mode already then?
  • jazjaz September 2010
Hi, thats not what i meant DanderDad.

The best fit mode scales the image up while keeping the correct aspect ration of the image. This is good, however it means that the comic is never in full view when on the screen. I think an option where the image would be stretched in both height and length to fill the screen is needed. Yes, this wood slightly distort the image, but not by much.

Basically, a mode where you can view each page in full filling the whole screen.

I think its much needed for those of us using tablets. It is possible as there is another (albeit inferior) comic viewer out there that has this option.

Yes, this is actually very simple to implement. I'm just not very keen on the idea of stretching the image. If more users want this feature, we will gladly add it.

With most android tablets however, the distortion is minimal.

I'm not sure this is the same issue I wanted to propose, but It's sure quite close:
As the OP I got an android pc tablet, firmware is android 2.1, and being an avid comic collector, I thought it perfect for digital comics. Following the suggestion of most people, I decided to use ACV as the viewer, and tried it out. I could open CBR (most of my files are in this format) with no problem and I found ACV quite good.
Now the problem: the program screen appears to be limited to only a small part of the actual tablet screen, leaving 3/4 of potentially useful space unused. I'm not very much familiar with android just yet, but browsing around it seems to be related to it being built for android 1.5, so it doesnt resize itself to the full tablet screen (or at least that's what I gathered).
Is there any way to get it work on the full 7", 800X480, telechip tablet screen?
    Thank you.

Sorry about the double post. Browsing the site, I found some other topic with similar issues.
The very kind Zissou answered "Droid Comic Viewer already supports multiple resolutions and screens sizes. The problem is that some devices use their own custom version of Android, and we can't know in advance what changes they made that prevent our app to work properly."
My tablet (which is a generic 7", with telechip CPU) has an "Android for Eclair", and from what I gather from Zissou's words, there's no way for me to visualize correctly ACV. Is that it?
This screen size is a problem I encountered with some other programs, by the way.

I have a 9" Pandigital tablet (800x480 resolution) with Android Eclair installed on it. I have installed the AVC app and it works great, but having the same issue as the people above are. Basically I would like to have an option to view the comic on the whole screen. The resolutions of the comics I read are pretty high so they would have no problem being stretched to fit the 9" screen size of the tablet without any image distortion. Thanks.

I have the exact same issue/ request as yakumofujii. Pandigital 9" tablet running a custom version of 2.0 Eclair . Fullscreen support for it would be awesome.

@anthares @yakumofujii @yvmmy Next week we will publish a beta that should solve the full-screen issue for official Android tablets, and might solve it for non-official Android tablets. This is not related to the original topic, so please do not continue the discussion about tablets here.
