Open Source version dead?

Last year there was talk of an open source version of ACV being released. It's april and I haven't been able to find any information about that. Is that project dead?

Hi there! First of all, I love this app.

I would like to know if you are currently working on support for ICS? I loved this app on my old HTC Desire, and currently switched to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which is running ICS. Unfortunately I can't access the settings for Droid Comic Viewer. When I view the settings, everything just looks blank.

Error Installing Latest Update

I have tried to get the latest update on my HTC Evo. All I get is this error-"Package was not signed correctly."

when ever i load a page on my comics i get a error report that says "Oops!" unable to load image. this generally happens because of an out of memory error.
then it goes on to say someone like cbr/rar files u should extract into a folder and open the folder with a long tap.

i have a couple of questions about that

1st. wat is a long tap? i dont under stand wat that means really lol

2nd. is there any way to fix this problem? i really love reading comics on my galaxy phone but just today it has been saying this report.. ive never had this problem before and its a recent thing. i havent downloaded any apps or music (cause its new and dont wanna mess it up) so i just downloaded the comic reader that i kno works.. i really really would love some help with this. also if there is a solution, can u explain it like a "fix ur phone comic app for dummys" would? i dont kno much about this kind of stuff. thanks and any help appreciated.

Problem with 3.2

I am using Eee Pad transformer and I upgrade mine to 3.2. Now I can't bring up setting for Droid Comic Viewer. I think the change in the resolution in 3.2 may have cause it. Any idea what I can do?

View comics via shared network drive or over the internet

When I view comics on my home computers, I normally access them through a shared drive (NAS). I'd like to be able to do the same with Droid Comic Viewer, with the net result being saving some SD card space and being able to select which comics to view/download either on my home wifi or over the internet.

Similar Android apps that do this with music files are Subsonic and Audiogalaxy, although they both require the use of a "helper" app running on the machine with access to the music files.

Can't find the SD card and other problems

The first problem.
"When opening Droid Comic Viewer for the first time you will be shown the SD browser. The SD browser allows browsing the SD card to open:"
When I press open, I can only see folders like "acct, cache, config, data, dev, etc, flash and some more".
Can't find any SD Browser.

The second problem
"Open Settings and turn on Controls:CBR/RAR support."
Can't find that option in the settings.

The third problem
When I start the program, it starts upside down. So I will have to rotate the tablet 180°.

no sd card makes acv unusable

i love android comic viewer but it becomes completely unusable if you don't have an sd card in your device. why is this?
i've saved my comics on my device and it reads them fine from there. but if i take my sd card out then i can't access anything.
please make acv usable with or without an sd card.

Comic Viewer on the HP TouchPad webOS

Ok, I don't think I'm the only one thinking this, but it would be great if this app gets ported to webOS. I heard that it was easy to port to webOS, but I don't know much about making apps so I have no idea if this is true or not. I know the future of webOS is in question right now, and it is obviously not android, but the HP TouchPad is now $99 for the 16GB version. A lot of people are buying this up and I'm sure a good amount of those people are comic fans. The price makes it very affordable and it is a perfect device for reading comics. This device is way better and, in some cases, cheaper than a pandigital or any of those underpower android tablets on the Chinese market.

Not really a "feature" request but are there any developers out there or people working on ACV wanting to start this? :D

Problem with solid RAR archives

Solid RAR archives as CBR generate errors and broken images. The same images recompressed as non solid archives work fine. I Know, solid archives are not good for this purpose, but I think it should work - even with poor performance.

Barnes & Noble Nook Color Official App

I emailed this suggestion to the developers and they said to post this suggestion here, and I just realized that the other thread actually has to do with the regular e-ink Nook, not the Nook Color.

As you may already know, the Nook Color has opened an app market. Since the device runs on a version of Android I was wondering if there were any plans to make the app available on this device?

Seems it would be pretty nice to have a comic reader app on an e-reader of all things. :D

One of the things I love about ACV is that up 'til now, the app has been both free on the Market and also ad-free, which is something you rarely see for free apps on Android.
So I'm wondering if the is a possibility for dedicated users to donate you, the developers, for a fantastic job and perhaps get you even more motivated!

Many Android apps have a doantion link inside the app, however I would rather like to see a donation version of the app in Android Market, so we can pay for the app via Google Checkout. This is probably a lot profitable now that many more countries are able to pay for and download paid apps from Market.

Thanks again for ACV, and hopefully you could make a good profit off it in the near future ;)

PS. On a side note, how is it coming with the new version of ACV? It's been a couple of months since you formely announced v1.4, but since then it's been rather quiet on the forum. I'm looking forward to some UI inprovements in the SD browser and screen browser, so don't make us wait too long! :)

One of the best things about tablets is the large and (hopefully) high-resolution screen, but many apps tend to be designed poorly for this because many developers keep the UI from their smartphone design and "stretch it"... which leaves a lot of empty area or simply looks ugly if everything is designed to enlarge.

I recently struck me as a fantastic design for ACV on Honeycomb tablets, would be a mimicry of Google Books app's design in Honeycomb: http://www.xoomblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/renderscript-books.jpg
This is a really neat design, and it would also work great for displaying a comics collection!
The design doesn't have to be a 3D experience: one could have a design where the user scrolls through the collection in a sideways-only manner (without the "field of depth").

The automatic thumbnail would of course be the very first page of that particular comic issue (or maybe have the option of being able to search for a cover through Comic Book DB and saving them?).

So, what what do you think about this design idea, devs and faithful users?
Cool but unnecessary?

Droid Comic Viewer 1.3.11.1 is now available in the Android Market. Version 1.3.11.1 is a minor update mainly intended to add basic tablet support to Droid Comic Viewer. Full list of changes:

Pandigital reader menu bar cutting off bottom portion of pages

I am using the Droid Comic Viewer V1.3.10.1 with my Pandigital Novel eReader. This model has a menu bar that is always located at the bottom of the viewing screen. This creates a problem for me, as it doesn’t appear that the reader will allow me to “hide” the menu bar. As such any comics I am viewing with DCV have the bottom portion of the “page” cut off. It doesn’t matter if I rotate the page, have it fit to width, actual size, whatever... The bottom of the page is always cut off.

Is there any way I can fix this? And if not, will this be a technical issue explored for the next release of the program?

Please, a key map feature.

As an Xperia Play user, I find that using the phone's gamepad shoulder buttons would be the best way to navigate between pages. I find every other set up to be less comfortable. However, there is no way for me to set the Next Page/Previous Page functions to these buttons. There is no option in Droid Comic Viewer to do so.

To apply to a wider range of users instead of just Xperia Play users, I suggest adding a key mapping feature where keys are mapped to functions. Currently, functions are set to keys. For an example, the user can set the "Back" button to navigate to the previous page or scroll down the current page. Key mapping would be the opposite, where the user is able to select a function, such as navigate to the next page, and input the button that would execute this function (in my case, I would love to set "Next Page" to Xperia Play's left shoulder button).

Crash on Startup-Samsung Galaxy Tab

I was stoked to try this out on my new tablet. Sadly, it doesn't work. I transferred a batch of CBZ files to the tablet. I opened one, and was able to read two pages before I got an out of memory error. I killed some tasks, and tried again, no luck. Opening another comic crashed the app. From then on, the app will crash on startup. Any hints?

Gentlemen, I am using Coby Table 7015 and the ACV presents memory problem to open archive cbr. What decobri is that the problem this in extension JPG. I converted the images for png and compactei in cbz, the ACV opened without memory problem. The images in png are very bigger and the ACV obtained to read. I find that the problem for the Tablets this in extension JPG and not only in cbr. I find that voc~es had to test. It forgives but I do not say English. One I hug Robson/Brazil. Ps. I am with finishes version of the ACV.

Droid Comic Viewer on Eken

It has come to our attention that the Eken (or some Eken models) has a virtual Menu key that is unusable for apps that run full-screen mode, like Droid Comic Viewer.

Unfortunately this prevents Eken users from easily accessing the Droid Comic Viewer menu, which is a vital part of our app.

There is a workaround for this problem that should be executed before opening a comic. If you already opened a comic, please reinstall the app or move/delete/rename the last read comic so Droid Comic Viewer does not open it automatically.

On the app main screen, tap on the icon to show the menu, then go to Settings > Controls > Custom controls, and assign the Menu action to an input event. Top left corner tap is a good choice because it currently has no default action.

We will include a more direct solution to this problem in a future update. If you have an Eken and want to help us implement this solution, please leave a message below.

It should be noted that, according to Android's Compatibility Definition Document, the Menu key should always be accessible, no matter what the app does. If the menu key is not accessible in full-screen mode, then the device is not complying with Android compatibility guidelines.

.ACV format images doesn't default to selected scale mode

I've set up my comics archive to include thumbnails per the tutorial, but when loading the images in the archive, they load in fit screen mode despite having selected fit width under scale mode settings.

Works just fine if I keep the comic archive in .zip format, but I lose the thumbnails when browsing screens.

Problem with comic-xml

Hi,
Trying to add buttons using the "message" option in comic.xml, but Comic Viewer seems to be ignoring all of the settings in the comic.xml file. I was following the notes I found here: http://forums.droidcomicviewer.com/discussion/291/.acv-format-images-doesnt-default-to-selected-scale-mode/p1

In case I did something stupid... Here's a step by step.

I have 32 images called screen000.jpg, screen 001.jpg etc
I have 32 thumbnails called tn_000.jpg, tn_001.jpg etc

I have a folder that contains the images and a sub-folder called z_tn that contains the thumbnails. In the root of the image folder, I created a file called comic.xml (see below). I then zipped up the entire folder + sub-folder and renamed the .zip file to a .acv file.

The comic.xml file has the following lines:

Hi, we created this project to optimize comics for Droid Comic Viewer. It reduces image size, converts to .cbz, and also converts .pdf files to .cbz format.

Load speed increases a lot.

It's written in python and has the following dependencies:

PIL: to resize img
unrar: to decompress .rar files
zip: to generate .cbz files
gs (optional): to read pdfs

PS: It works only in *nix systems.
